A Twitter Card Validator is a tool that lets you preview how your links will appear when shared on X (Twitter). It reads the Open Graph (og:) and Twitter Card (twitter:) meta tags from your webpage and renders a visual preview of the card, along with validation warnings for any missing or incorrect tags.
Twitter (now X) deprecated the preview functionality of its official Card Validator at cards-dev.twitter.com. The tool no longer shows a visual preview of your cards. This free tool serves as a replacement, letting you check your Open Graph tags, Twitter Card meta tags, and preview your link cards before sharing.
There are four types of Twitter Cards: (1) Summary — shows a small square thumbnail with title and description, (2) Summary with Large Image — displays a large image above the text, (3) Player — for video/audio content, and (4) App — for mobile app promotion. Most websites use either "summary" or "summary_large_image".
Common reasons include: missing og:image or twitter:image meta tag, the image URL uses HTTP instead of HTTPS (X requires HTTPS), the image URL is relative instead of absolute, the image file is too large (X recommends under 5MB), the image dimensions are too small, or your robots.txt is blocking crawlers from accessing the image.
At minimum, X recommends: twitter:card (card type), og:title or twitter:title (link title), og:description or twitter:description (brief summary), and og:image or twitter:image (preview image). The og:url tag is also recommended for specifying the canonical URL.
For summary_large_image cards, use 1200x630 pixels (1.91:1 ratio). For summary cards, use 144x144 pixels minimum, up to 4096x4096 maximum. Images should be under 5MB in JPG, PNG, WEBP, or GIF format, and must be served over HTTPS.
Paste your URL into the card validator tool above and click "Validate". The tool will fetch your page, read all Open Graph and Twitter Card meta tags, and render a visual preview showing exactly how your link will appear when shared on X/Twitter.
Yes, X/Twitter falls back to Open Graph tags when Twitter-specific meta tags are absent. For example, if twitter:title is missing, X will use og:title instead. Similarly, og:description and og:image serve as fallbacks for their twitter: equivalents.
X/Twitter caches card data for approximately 7 days. If you update your meta tags, it may take up to a week for the new card to appear. Previously, you could force a refresh via the official Card Validator, but that feature has been deprecated.
Yes, this card validator is completely free and requires no login or Twitter/X account. Simply paste any URL and the tool will fetch and validate the meta tags server-side, showing you a preview of the card.
