How to Auto-Post from RSS Feeds with OpenTweet
Last updated: April 15, 2026
The RSS connector is the simplest way to automate tweets from content you're already publishing. Every new blog post, podcast episode, or YouTube video can become a tweet automatically, without any manual effort.
What RSS sources does OpenTweet support?
OpenTweet supports RSS 2.0, Atom, and JSON Feed formats. Compatible sources include WordPress (/feed), Ghost (/rss), Substack, Medium (medium.com/feed/@username), YouTube channel feeds, podcast RSS feeds, newsletter feeds, and any custom RSS or Atom feed URL. Paste your feed URL and OpenTweet validates it and shows a preview of recent items.
How do I customize RSS connector tweets?
In the connector settings, choose between AI-generated tweets or a custom template. For custom templates, use placeholder variables: {title} for the item title, {link} for the URL, {description} for the excerpt. Example template: "New post: {title} — {link}". AI mode sends the title and description to the AI which generates a more engaging tweet optimized for X.
How does the connector avoid duplicate tweets?
OpenTweet tracks the unique ID and URL of every RSS item it has processed. If the same item reappears in the feed (e.g., due to a feed rebuild or date change), OpenTweet recognizes it as already-processed and skips it. Each RSS item is posted exactly once, preventing duplicate content in your timeline.
Can I control when RSS connector tweets post?
Yes. In the connector settings, define a posting schedule: allowed hours and days of the week. If a new RSS item is detected outside the allowed window, the tweet queues and posts at the next allowed time. This prevents 3 AM tweets when your feed updates at an inconvenient time for your audience.
