Can you have multiple X accounts?

Yes, you can have multiple X accounts. X allows up to 10 accounts for different, non-duplicative purposes, such as a personal and a brand account. Each needs its own email, while one phone number can cover up to 10. Using them to inflate engagement, evade a suspension or post the same content across them is banned.

Everything below is quoted from X's help center: the authenticity policy (the old platform manipulation and spam policy URL now redirects there), the automation rules and the account settings help pages.

What X's multiple accounts policy says

The rule that answers the question is one line in the authenticity policy:

“X allows users to create and/or operate up to ten (10) accounts for different, non-duplicative purposes.”

The policy sits under a heading on coordination, which opens with: “We prohibit coordinated inauthentic activity that artificially influences conversations or disrupts X.” So the number of accounts is not the test. What each account is for, and how the accounts interact, is.

Allowed

  • Accounts for personal projects, hobbies or interests, or for your business
  • Brand accounts for different locations or languages, such as English, Spanish and French
  • Accounts run on behalf of a third party, such as a social media manager handling clients
  • Related but separate chapters or branches, such as a business with several locations
  • A personal account alongside pseudonymous or hobby accounts

Not allowed

  • Using several accounts to boost trending topics or hashtags
  • Using several accounts to engage with the same posts, accounts or polls
  • Amplifying one of your own accounts by misusing engagement features
  • Cross-posting the same or near-identical content across your accounts
  • Workarounds to exceed account creation limits, such as phone number limits
  • Creating a new account to evade a suspension

Both lists paraphrase the examples in X's authenticity policy.

Multiple X accounts with the same email

Not possible. X's help page on emails that are already in use says:

“An email address can only be associated with one X account at a time.”

Each account needs its own address. The same page notes that after you deactivate an account, its username and email address stay unavailable for another account for 30 days, and that email addresses attached to suspended accounts are not available for use under any circumstances. Source: help with an email, phone number, or username that's already in use.

Multiple X accounts with the same phone number

Allowed, up to a cap. X's help page on adding a phone number says:

“You can have the same phone number associated with up to 10 X accounts.”

The authenticity policy treats that cap as a hard line. It lists “employing workarounds to exceed the technical limits of account creation (e.g., account phone number limits)” as not allowed. Source: how to add a phone number to your account.

Switching between accounts in the X app

X supports being logged in to several accounts at once. On iOS and Android you open the menu and choose Create new account or Add an existing account, then switch from the account icons or the arrow in the header. On desktop you click your profile icon, add an existing account, and toggle between them from the same place. X's how to manage multiple accounts page covers each app.

That page does not state a maximum for the account switcher, so we do not quote one here. It does confirm one limit people often ask about: X does not offer a way to merge accounts or move posts, following or followers from one account to another.

Posting the same post to several of your accounts

This is where most multi-account setups get into trouble. X's automation rules say:

“You may not post duplicative or substantially similar posts on one account or over multiple accounts you operate.”

The same rules add that you may not create or automate multiple accounts for duplicative or substantially similar use cases, while automating accounts for related but non-duplicative use cases is permitted. The authenticity policy repeats the point, banning cross-posting “content across multiple accounts” with one stated exception: content that is cross-posted but localized into another language is permitted.

The penalty is account consolidation

In X's words, for a violation centered on multiple accounts, “you may be asked to choose one account to keep. The remaining accounts will be suspended.” If one account is suspended, X also reserves the right to suspend any other account it believes the same person is operating to evade that suspension.

In practice: give each account its own content, write a separate version of an announcement for each audience, and stagger timing. More on what X counts as spam when you automate is in X automation rules explained.

How to manage multiple X accounts with OpenTweet

OpenTweet connects several X accounts to one workspace, so you can write and schedule for each from one calendar instead of logging in and out. The number of connected X accounts depends on the plan.

Plan
Price
Connected X accounts
Pro
$11.99 / mo
1
Advanced
$29 / mo
3
Agency
$49 / mo
10

Agency covers 10 accounts, which matches X's own ceiling of ten accounts per person. If you build your own tooling, one API key reaches every connected account, described in can I post to multiple X accounts from one API key. The in-app side is on multiple X accounts, and a longer walkthrough is in how to manage multiple X accounts in 2026.

OpenTweet does not change X's rules. Scheduling the same text to every account is still duplicate content in X's eyes, so write each account's posts for that account.

Frequently asked questions

Can you have multiple X accounts?

Yes. X's authenticity policy says X "allows users to create and/or operate up to ten (10) accounts for different, non-duplicative purposes." A personal account plus a brand account, or one account per language or location, is allowed. Using several accounts to boost the same content, post duplicate content or evade a suspension is not.

Can I use the same email for two X accounts?

No. X's help center says "An email address can only be associated with one X account at a time." Each account needs its own email address. If an email is already in use, X lets you remove it from the other account first.

Can I use the same phone number for multiple X accounts?

Yes, up to a limit. X's help center says "You can have the same phone number associated with up to 10 X accounts." The authenticity policy separately bans "workarounds to exceed the technical limits of account creation", which includes phone number limits.

Can I post the same post on all my X accounts?

No. The automation rules say "You may not post duplicative or substantially similar posts on one account or over multiple accounts you operate." The authenticity policy also lists cross-posting content across multiple accounts as not allowed, with one exception: content cross-posted but localized into another language is permitted.

What happens if X decides my accounts break the rules?

X's policy says severe violations are permanently suspended at first detection. For a violation centered on multiple accounts, "you may be asked to choose one account to keep. The remaining accounts will be suspended." If one account is suspended, X can also suspend other accounts it believes the same person runs to evade that suspension.

Can I merge two X accounts into one?

No. X's help center says it does not offer a way to merge multiple accounts into one or migrate posts, following or followers from one account to another.

Can a social media manager run client accounts?

Yes. The authenticity policy lists controlling multiple accounts on behalf of a third party, such as social media managers, as allowed, provided none of the accounts break the X Rules.

How many X accounts can I schedule with OpenTweet?

It depends on the plan. Pro at $11.99 a month connects 1 X account, Advanced at $29 connects 3 and Agency at $49 connects 10. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial.
