X Daily Limits in 2026

Since May 2026 the X daily limit for unverified accounts is reported at 50 original posts and 200 replies, and posts sent through the API count toward it. The API separately allows 100 posts per 15 minutes per user. X does not publish caps for likes, and some other numbers are only reported.

Below is every number in one table, each marked as official (with the X page it comes from), reported by a third party, or not published at all. Then the questions that decide whether you hit a cap: whether scheduled posts count, whether thread parts count as replies, and what happens when you go over.

Every X daily limit in one table

Official means we checked the number in the X API docs or changelog in October 2026. Reported means it comes from a dated news report or from an X Help Center page we could not re-check, because help.x.com blocks automated access. Not published means X gives no number, so anything you read elsewhere is an estimate.

What changed in May 2026

Before May 2026, X's limits page listed 2,400 posts a day. Engadget reported on May 18 2026 that the page now limits unverified accounts to 50 original posts and 200 replies per day, and that paying for X Premium avoids the caps.

X has not published a separate daily number for Premium accounts. Do not plan around the old 2,400 on a verified account either. Treat it as a higher ceiling that X does not disclose.

The daily cap is split into smaller windows

X has long said the daily update limit is broken down into smaller limits for semi-hourly intervals, but it does not publish their size. So a burst of posts fired within a few minutes may be refused even on a day when you are well under 50. Spread posts across the day.

Does the limit apply to scheduled and API posts?

Yes. X counts limits per account, and its limits page has long said they include actions from all devices, including the API. A post sent by a scheduler, a bot or an AI agent counts against the same daily caps as one typed into the X app. Using several tools at once does not give you several allowances. They all draw from one account.

API posting adds a second, separate layer. The X API allows 100 POST /2/tweets requests per 15 minutes per user and 10,000 per 24 hours per app. An unverified account reaches the 50 originals cap long before the API window matters. When the API window runs out you get a 429, covered in X API rate limit 429.

Replies from the API carry an extra rule. Since February 23 2026, self-serve API tiers can only reply programmatically when the original author summoned the replying account with an @mention or a quote. Enterprise access is not affected. The wider policy picture is in Twitter automation rules 2026.

Do thread parts count as replies?

Unconfirmed. On X, every part of a thread after the first is posted as a reply to your own previous post. X's limits page does not say whether those parts count toward the 50 originals, the 200 replies, or neither. We could not find an X statement either way.

Until X says, plan conservatively. Count the first part of each thread as an original and every following part as a reply, and keep a margin under both caps. Five 6-part threads a day is 5 originals and 25 replies, which fits easily. Thirty 8-part threads is 30 originals and 210 replies, which does not if parts are counted as replies.

What happens when you hit an X limit

You get an error telling you that you hit a limit, and for time-based limits like posts and DMs you can try again once the time period has passed. Through the API, a rate limit returns a 429. X does not publish whether the day resets at a fixed hour or rolls, so a cap reached in the evening may not clear at midnight.

Follows have one more caveat: the reported 400 a day is a technical limit only, and X's automation rules prohibit aggressive following. DM-heavy workflows are covered in X DM limits 2026, and the scheduling side in Twitter posting limits 2026.

Do not retry in a loop

A script that keeps resending after a limit error makes nothing go faster. The cap clears on time, not on attempts. Stop, note when you hit it, and resume hours later. For the policy limits on automated follows, DMs and replies, see X automation rules.

How OpenTweet plan caps relate to X limits

OpenTweet has its own daily cap on published posts, set per plan and counted per OpenTweet user. It does not raise X's limits. X counts per X account, across every app that account uses, so both caps apply and whichever is lower for a given account binds first.

Plan
OpenTweet posts a day
X accounts
Pro
20
1
Advanced
100
3
Agency
300
10

On Pro, 20 posts a day on 1 account stays under X's 50 originals for an unverified account. On Advanced and Agency the plan allowance is shared across up to 3 and 10 X accounts. If you put more than 50 originals a day on one unverified account, X's cap binds before the plan does, so spread volume across accounts or keep each one under 50.

Character, media and link limits are a separate question, compared across X, Bluesky and LinkedIn in X vs Bluesky vs LinkedIn post limits.

Frequently asked questions

What is the X daily post limit in 2026?

Engadget reported on May 18 2026 that the X Help Center now limits unverified accounts to 50 original posts and 200 replies a day, down from 2,400 posts. X has long said the daily limit is also split into smaller semi-hourly windows, and it does not publish their sizes.

What is the X daily follow limit?

X's Help Center has long listed a technical limit of 400 follows a day, with further limits once an account follows 5,000 accounts. We could not re-check that page in October 2026, so treat 400 as reported. Staying under it does not make mass following safe, because X's automation rules prohibit aggressive following.

What is the X daily DM limit and when does it reset?

X's Help Center has long listed 500 Direct Messages sent per day, which we could not re-check in October 2026. X does not publish an exact reset time. Through the X API, DM sends are officially capped at 15 per 15 minutes and 1,440 per 24 hours per user.

Do scheduled and API posts count toward the X daily limit?

Yes. X counts limits per account, and its Help Center has long said they include actions from all devices, including the API. A post published by a scheduler or a bot counts against the same daily caps as a post you type in the app.

Does X Premium remove the 50 post limit?

Reportedly yes. Engadget reported on May 18 2026 that the 50 and 200 caps apply to unverified accounts and that X Premium avoids them. X does not publish a separate daily number for verified accounts, so treat Premium as a higher, undisclosed ceiling, not as unlimited.

Is there a daily like limit on X?

Not a published one. X does not list a daily like cap. Any specific like cap you read online is an estimate, not an X number.

Do thread parts count as replies on X?

Unconfirmed. Each part after the first is technically a reply to your own post, but X's limits page does not say which bucket thread parts use. For planning, count every part of a thread as one post and keep a margin under both caps.
