How to schedule LinkedIn posts three ways: with LinkedIn's own composer, with a scheduler that puts LinkedIn, X and Bluesky on one calendar, or with one API call from your code or an AI agent.

Short answer
LinkedIn's own composer can schedule a post: write it, open the schedule (clock) option next to Post, pick a date and time, then confirm. To schedule to LinkedIn, X and Bluesky together, or from an AI agent or API, use a scheduler like OpenTweet, which publishes through LinkedIn's official API.Every way to schedule a LinkedIn post
Pick by how many posts you plan and how many networks they go to.
| Route | Cost | Networks | API | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LinkedIn's own composer | Free | LinkedIn only | No | An occasional post |
| OpenTweet app | From $11.99/mo | LinkedIn, X and Bluesky | Included | A weekly queue across networks |
| OpenTweet API or MCP | Included in every plan | LinkedIn, X and Bluesky | Yes, scheduled_date | Apps, scripts and AI agents |
| Your own LinkedIn API code | Free API, your hosting | LinkedIn only | You build the queue | Developers who will maintain it |
Option 1. Schedule in LinkedIn itself
Free, built in, and fine for the occasional post.
The flow in LinkedIn's post composer:
- Click Start a post and write it, with any images.
- Open the schedule option, the clock icon next to the Post button.
- Choose the date and time, then confirm with Schedule.
LinkedIn moves these controls from time to time, and we could not confirm the current limits from a LinkedIn Help page, such as how far ahead you can schedule or which post types can be scheduled. Check LinkedIn Help for the version you see. What does not change: the native scheduler covers LinkedIn only, one post at a time, with no API.
Option 2. Schedule LinkedIn posts with OpenTweet
Three steps, and the connection happens once.
Connect LinkedIn
Click Connect LinkedIn and sign in on LinkedIn itself. OpenTweet never sees your password, and there is no developer app to create. Posts go to the personal profile you signed in with.
Write with the 3,000-character counter
The composer counts against the 3,000-character LinkedIn limit as you type, strictly, so most emoji count as 2. Add up to 4 images. Two or more publish as a LinkedIn multi-image post.
Pick a time and the networks
Choose the date and time, tick LinkedIn in the platform picker, and schedule. Tick X or Bluesky too and the same draft goes to each network as a native post of its own. Until it publishes, you can still change anything.
A thread you wrote for X becomes one combined LinkedIn post, with the parts joined by a blank line, while X and Bluesky still get the thread. LinkedIn sign-ins last 60 days with no refresh token, so you reconnect every 60 days in one click, and OpenTweet emails you if a scheduled post is waiting on it.
Pro ($11.99/mo) connects 1 LinkedIn profile, Advanced ($29/mo) connects 3, and Agency ($49/mo) connects 10. The LinkedIn scheduler page has the full feature list, and cross-posting to LinkedIn covers the multi-network details.
What a scheduled LinkedIn post can carry in OpenTweet
Plan inside these limits and the post goes out as written.
Supported
- Text up to 3,000 characters
- Up to 4 images per post
- Threads, combined into one post
- Posts to your personal profile
- The same draft to X and Bluesky
Not supported today
- Video, which is skipped on LinkedIn with a reason
- PDF and document carousels
- Polls
- Company Pages
Option 3. Schedule LinkedIn posts through an API
For apps, scripts and AI agents.
LinkedIn's posting API publishes immediately and has no field for a future time, as covered in does the LinkedIn API support scheduling. A scheduler keeps the post in its own queue and calls the API when the time comes. You can build that yourself, starting from posting to LinkedIn with Python, or hand OpenTweet a scheduled_date:
curl -X POST https://opentweet.io/api/v1/posts \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $OPENTWEET_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"text": "We moved deploys to Tuesday mornings. Here is what changed.",
"platforms": ["linkedin"],
"scheduled_date": "2026-10-20T08:00:00Z"
}'Add "x" or "bluesky" to the list to cross-post. AI agents can do the same through the MCP server. For workflows and agents end to end, see automate LinkedIn posts and the cross-posting API docs.
Frequently asked questions
How do I schedule LinkedIn posts in advance?
In LinkedIn itself, write the post in the composer, open the schedule (clock) option next to Post, pick a date and time, and confirm. To schedule to LinkedIn, X and Bluesky from one draft, or from code or an AI agent, use a scheduler such as OpenTweet and pick the time there.
Can I schedule LinkedIn posts for free?
LinkedIn's own composer schedules posts at no cost. The free route has two limits: it schedules one network, LinkedIn, and you set each post up by hand. A paid scheduler adds a shared calendar with X and Bluesky, cross-posting from one draft, and an API.
Is scheduling LinkedIn posts safe?
Yes, when the tool publishes through LinkedIn's official API after you sign in with LinkedIn. The risk sits with tools that automate your browser session or cookies, which the LinkedIn User Agreement prohibits as unauthorized automated methods. OpenTweet uses the official sign-in and posting API.
Does the LinkedIn API support scheduling?
No. LinkedIn has no API field for a future publish time, so every LinkedIn scheduler stores the post itself and calls the posting API at the time you picked. Until then the post lives in the scheduler, where you can still edit, move or delete it.
Can I edit a scheduled LinkedIn post in OpenTweet?
Yes, any time before it publishes. Open it in the composer or calendar and change the text, images, time or networks, or send PUT /api/v1/posts/{id} from code.
Why do I have to reconnect LinkedIn every 60 days?
LinkedIn sign-ins for self-serve apps last 60 days and come with no refresh token, so nothing can renew them in the background. Reconnecting is one click. If the sign-in has expired while posts are scheduled, those LinkedIn posts are held and OpenTweet emails you to reconnect.
Can I schedule posts to a LinkedIn Company Page with OpenTweet?
No. OpenTweet posts to the personal profile of the member who connected. Company Page posting through the API needs LinkedIn review for the Community Management API, and OpenTweet does not support Company Pages.
Can I schedule a thread to LinkedIn?
LinkedIn has no threads. A thread that targets LinkedIn is published as one post, with the parts joined by a blank line and the images from every part collected into it. On X and Bluesky the same draft still posts as a thread.
