How It Works
Get your OpenTweet API key
Sign up at opentweet.io, connect your X account, and grab an API key from the developer dashboard. It starts with ot_ and takes about 60 seconds.
Add OpenTweet to ~/.hermes/config.yaml
Add one entry under mcp_servers with the npx command and your API key. Run /reload-mcp inside Hermes — no restart required.
Tell Hermes what to post
Your agent now has full access to create tweets, schedule threads, manage evergreen queues, and pull analytics. Just describe what you want.
# ~/.hermes/config.yaml
mcp_servers:
opentweet:
command: "npx"
args: ["-y", "@opentweet/mcp-server"]
env:
OPENTWEET_API_KEY: "ot_your_key_here"
timeout: 60
supports_parallel_tool_calls: falseThen run /reload-mcp inside your Hermes session.
Built for These Workflows
Weekly Content Planning
Tell Hermes your content ideas for the week. It drafts all 5 posts and schedules them at your best engagement times — one conversation.
Autonomous Content Agents
Set up a Hermes mission that researches trending topics in your niche, writes tweets, and queues them daily without you touching it.
Evergreen Recycling
Ask Hermes to pull your top 10 posts from last year and add them to the evergreen queue with 30-day cooldowns. Your best content stays in rotation.
Build-in-Public Founders
Paste your progress notes into Hermes. It turns them into an authentic update thread and schedules it for your peak hour.
Analytics-Driven Posting
Hermes can check what's performing, identify content gaps, write a post on the winning topic, and schedule it for the best time — all chained together.
Multi-Account Management
Running accounts for multiple brands? Hermes lists your accounts and routes posts to the right one. Advanced and Agency plans support up to 3–10 accounts.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I connect Hermes Agent to Twitter/X?
Add OpenTweet as an MCP server in ~/.hermes/config.yaml under mcp_servers. Set your OpenTweet API key in the env block and run /reload-mcp. No Twitter API key needed.
Do I need a $100/month Twitter API key?
No. OpenTweet handles the X authentication. You connect your X account once in the OpenTweet dashboard, then use an OpenTweet API key (ot_...) from that point on.
Can Hermes Agent schedule tweets automatically?
Yes. Tell Hermes to schedule a post for a specific date and time — it calls create_tweet with a scheduled_date and OpenTweet publishes it automatically.
What's the difference between OpenTweet MCP and the hermes-tweet plugin?
hermes-tweet is a third-party Python plugin routing through the Xquik API. OpenTweet uses the MCP protocol — no plugin install, just a config entry. Different service, different credentials.
Does it support multiple X accounts?
Yes. Advanced plan supports 3 accounts, Agency plan supports 10. Ask Hermes to list your accounts and it'll pass the x_account_id automatically.
