Bluesky search operators and syntax

The operators below come from the search code of the open source Bluesky app (bluesky-social/social-app) and the searchPosts API lexicon, as of October 2026. Quoted phrases and -word exclusions are passed to the search engine as written. Type them straight into Bluesky search or let the builder above combine them.

Operator exampleWhat it finds
from:alice.bsky.socialPosts by one account. Use the full handle, with or without the @.
from:meYour own posts. Bluesky resolves "me" to the signed-in account.
mentions:alice.bsky.socialPosts that mention the account. to: works as the same filter.
since:2026-01-01Posts on or after this date (inclusive). Format YYYY-MM-DD.
until:2026-03-31Posts before this date (not inclusive). Format YYYY-MM-DD.
lang:enPosts tagged with that language code.
domain:github.comPosts with a link or link card pointing to that website.
url:https://example.com/postPosts with a link or link card pointing to that URL. Bluesky may normalize the URL or match it loosely.
#buildinpublicPosts with that hashtag. Several hashtags must all match.
"exact phrase"Keeps the quoted words together as a phrase. Passed to the search engine as written.
-wordLeaves out posts that contain the word. Passed to the search engine as written.

One value per operator

Bluesky keeps only the first from:, mentions:, domain:, url:, lang:, since: and until: in a query. A second from: is ignored. Hashtags are the exception: each #tag you add must match.

Bluesky Advanced Search FAQ

What search operators does Bluesky support?

The Bluesky app recognizes from:, mentions: (and to: as an alias), since:, until:, lang:, domain:, url: and #hashtag inside the search box. This list comes from the operator parser in the open source Bluesky app (bluesky-social/social-app) as of October 2026. Quoted phrases and -word exclusions are passed through to the search engine as written.

How do I search Bluesky posts by date?

Add since:YYYY-MM-DD and until:YYYY-MM-DD to your query, for example cats since:2026-01-01 until:2026-02-01. since: includes that day and until: does not. Bluesky may filter on its own sort timestamp, which can differ slightly from the time the post says it was created.

How do I search posts from a specific Bluesky user?

Use from: with the full handle, such as from:alice.bsky.social or from:yourdomain.com for a custom domain handle. The @ is optional. To search your own posts, use from:me while signed in.

Can I search Bluesky without an account?

This builder needs no account, no signup and no API key, because it only creates a bsky.app search link. Bluesky documents that its post search API may require authentication on some services, so if the link opens without results, sign in to bsky.app and open it again.

Can I use more than one from: or mentions: in a query?

Not inside the search text. The Bluesky app keeps only the first from:, mentions:, domain:, url:, lang:, since: and until: it finds and ignores the rest. Hashtags are different: every #tag you add is kept, and a post has to match all of them.

Why does Bluesky search find posts with a link card but no visible URL?

domain: and url: match both links in the post text and link card embeds, so a post whose link was turned into a card still matches even when the URL is hidden from the text.
