The short answer

The best Postiz alternative depends on why you are leaving. If you self-host Postiz and the X part is the problem (developer app, keys, X API bills), OpenTweet posts to X with no developer account and the X fee included in the plan.

Postiz Cloud costs $29 to $99 a month and has no free plan. Self-hosted Postiz is free and open source, but to post to X you create your own X developer app and pay X's API fees yourself: $0.015 per post and $0.200 per post with a link. OpenTweet starts at $19.99/mo for one X account, or $29/mo for 3 accounts and 10 link posts a day. Postiz is still the better pick if you need Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or Facebook.

Self-hosted Postiz bills X through your own developer account

The Postiz X guide starts with: "Head over the Twitter developers page and create a new app." Source: Postiz self-host docs, X (Twitter). X charges that app $0.015 per post and $0.200 per post with a URL (X API pricing, checked October 26, 2026). OpenTweet posts through its own X app and pays those fees inside your plan.

Postiz pricing in 2026

Postiz Cloud, from its plans doc, read October 26, 2026. Posts are unlimited on every plan.

PlanMonthlyYearlyChannelsAlso included
Standard$29$278520 AI images, 3 AI videos, 60 clipping minutes, 2 webhooks, no team members
Team$39$37410100 AI images, 10 AI videos, 120 clipping minutes, team members
Pro$49$47030300 AI images, 30 AI videos, 300 clipping minutes
Ultimate$99$950100500 AI images, 60 AI videos, 600 clipping minutes

Every plan includes the public API, CLI and MCP server. The limits page caps the create-post endpoint at 90 requests an hour on every plan. Postiz refunds up to one month of fees if your last charge was within 120 days; annual plans are not refundable (pricing FAQ).

The pricing page and the plans doc disagree on RSS auto-posting: the pricing page lists it on Standard, the doc says Team and up. Postiz says the pricing page wins if they differ.

What self-hosting Postiz takes

The open-source edition (AGPL-3.0, about 37,800 GitHub stars on October 26, 2026) runs from the official Docker Compose file, which bundles PostgreSQL, Redis and Temporal. Temporal has been required since v2.12.0. The system requirements list 2 vCPU and 2 GB of RAM as the minimum for light single-user use, and 4 GB or more once you have several users or scheduled workflows.

For X, the setup is yours to run:

  • Create an X developer app, set it to Read and Write, and choose Native App. Postiz says "Web App, Automated App or Bot" makes authentication fail with error code 32.
  • Add the callback URL for your domain, regenerate the consumer keys and put them in X_API_KEY and X_API_SECRET.
  • Fund the developer account. Posts bill on X pay-per-use: $0.015 each, $0.200 with a link.
  • Optional: STRIP_LINKS_FROM_X_POSTS=true removes URLs from every X post, and DISABLE_X_ANALYTICS=true skips the analytics call if your X plan lacks it.

Where Postiz is better

  • Many more networks: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Reddit, Discord, Mastodon and others. OpenTweet covers X, Bluesky and LinkedIn.
  • Open source. You can self-host it, read the code and change it.
  • Unlimited posts per month on every Cloud plan, and 5 channels on the $29 Standard plan.
  • Unlimited team members from the Team plan, plus AI images, AI video and YouTube clipping.

Where OpenTweet is better for X

  • No X developer account, app type or keys. Connect X with a normal login and get one ot_ API key.
  • X's API fees are included. 10 link posts a day are part of Advanced at $29/mo; on self-hosted Postiz each one costs $0.200 from X.
  • Lower entry price: $19.99/mo for one X account, against $29 for Postiz Standard.
  • More API headroom: 60 requests a minute on Pro, against 90 create-post requests an hour on every Postiz plan.
  • Deeper on X: X Articles, an evergreen queue, X analytics and DM campaigns on Advanced and Agency, and AI that learns your writing voice.
  • A Telegram bot and CSV import with AI, on top of the REST API, MCP server, CLI and n8n node.

What 10 posts a day on X costs

One X account, 10 posts a day, half of them with a link: about 150 plain and 150 link posts a month.

OptionMonthly costHow it gets there
OpenTweet Advanced$29/mo10 link posts and 100 posts a day included. Nothing else to pay X.
Postiz Cloud Standard$29/mo5 channels, unlimited posts. RSS is listed on Team ($39) in the plans doc.
Postiz self-hosted$32.25/mo + server150 link posts x $0.200 + 150 plain posts x $0.015, billed by X to your developer account. Plus a server with 4 GB of RAM or more.
Your own script on the X API$32.25/moSame X fees, and you write and run the scheduler.

Link posts drive the X bill. With no links, the same 300 posts cost $4.50 a month in X fees, and self-hosting is the cheapest route if you already run a server. Work out your own volume with the X API cost calculator.

How to move your X posting from Postiz to OpenTweet

  1. Export what is queued

List the X posts still scheduled in Postiz, with their dates. OpenTweet imports JSON or CSV, and the CSV importer reads date and time columns.

  2. Connect X

Start the trial and connect each X account with a normal login. No developer app, keys or callback URL.

  3. Swap the API calls

Point your scripts at POST https://opentweet.io/api/v1/posts with an ot_ bearer key. Batch up to 50 posts per request with /api/v1/posts/batch-schedule.

  4. Swap the MCP server

In Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client, replace the Postiz server with https://mcp.opentweet.io/mcp and your key.

  5. Move your feeds

Add each RSS feed as an OpenTweet connector, with an AI rewrite or a {title} {url} template, checked every 5 or 15 minutes.

  6. Disconnect X in Postiz

Remove the X channel in Postiz before the first OpenTweet post goes out, so nothing posts twice. Keep Postiz for your other networks if you like.

Frequently asked questions

Is Postiz free?

The open-source edition is free to self-host under the AGPL-3.0 licence. Postiz Cloud has no free plan: its docs say an organisation without a subscription cannot use the app, and new accounts get a 7-day trial instead. Self-hosting still has costs: a server (Postiz recommends 4 GB of RAM or more) and, for X, the X API fees billed to your own developer account.

How much does Postiz cost in 2026?

Per the Postiz plans page read on October 26, 2026: Standard $29 a month (5 channels), Team $39 (10 channels), Pro $49 (30 channels) and Ultimate $99 (100 channels). Yearly billing is $278, $374, $470 and $950. Posts are unlimited on every plan; the plans differ by channels, AI credits, webhooks and team members.

Does self-hosted Postiz need an X developer account?

Yes. The Postiz X setup guide starts with "Head over the Twitter developers page and create a new app", then you set it to Read and Write, choose Native App, and paste the API key and secret into X_API_KEY and X_API_SECRET. Every post then bills to that developer account on X's pay-per-use pricing.

What does posting to X cost on self-hosted Postiz?

X's API fees, paid by you: $0.015 per post and $0.200 per post that contains a link (X API pricing, checked October 26, 2026). 10 posts a day with 5 of them carrying a link is about 150 plain and 150 link posts a month, or $32.25 in X fees, before your server.

Why do my Postiz X posts fail with error 32?

The Postiz guide says the X app type must be Native App for OAuth 1.0a to work, and that choosing "Web App, Automated App or Bot" makes authentication fail with error code 32. Change the app type in the X developer console and reconnect the channel.

Does Postiz have an API and MCP server?

Yes. Every Postiz Cloud plan includes the public API, a CLI and a hosted MCP server. Its limits page says the create-post endpoint allows 90 requests per hour on every plan, though one request can carry several posts. OpenTweet also includes its API, CLI and MCP server on every plan, with 60 requests a minute on Pro and up to 600 on Agency.

Is OpenTweet open source like Postiz?

No. OpenTweet is a hosted service, so there is nothing to self-host. Its MCP server is open source on GitHub, but the app is not. If running the code yourself matters to you, Postiz is the better fit.

Can OpenTweet post to Instagram or TikTok?

No. OpenTweet posts to X, Bluesky and LinkedIn. Postiz covers many more networks, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Reddit and Mastodon.

X posting without the developer app

Connect X with a normal login, get one API key, and post from your dashboard, scripts or AI agent. X's fees included, from $19.99/mo.
