How to download an X video

Copy the post link, paste it above, pick a quality and press Download. X stores each video as several MP4 files on video.twimg.com, one per resolution, plus a streaming playlist the app uses. This tool lists the MP4s with their size and bitrate and saves the one you pick, with the account name and post ID as the file name.

Bitrates are from a sample 1080p post; vertical and square videos get matching sizes such as 720x1280 or 720x720. One minute at 1080p is roughly 75 MB, at 720p roughly 16 MB. Videos are H.264 with AAC audio, so they play on every phone, browser and editor without converting.

What the tool can and cannot download

Videos

Any video in a public post or the post it quotes, in every MP4 quality X encoded. Long videos from Premium accounts work the same way.

GIFs

X stores GIFs as silent looping MP4s, so that is what you get. Convert to .gif with ffmpeg if you need the old format.

Not supported

Live broadcasts, Spaces audio, posts from protected accounts and posts hidden behind a sensitive-content or age check.

How do I download a video from Twitter (X)?

What quality can I download X videos in?

Every quality X encoded for that video, usually from 320p or 480p up to 720p, and 1080p when the author uploaded in full HD. The highest one is listed first with its bitrate. X does not keep the uploaded file itself, so 1080p is the ceiling for most posts.

How do I download a Twitter video on iPhone?

Open this page in Safari, paste the link and tap Download. Safari saves the MP4 to Files, then Downloads (tap the download arrow in the address bar to see it). Open the video, tap Share, then Save Video to move it into Photos.

How do I download a GIF from Twitter?

X turns every GIF into a short silent MP4 when it is posted, so the download is an MP4. Most chat apps play it like a GIF. To get a real .gif file, convert it: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vf "fps=15,scale=480:-1" output.gif.

Can I download a video from a quoted post or a reply?

Quoted posts: yes, the tool also lists the media of the post being quoted. Replies: open the reply itself and copy its own link, because each post has its own media.

Why does the tool say the post cannot be found?

It reads posts the way a logged-out visitor sees them. Deleted posts, protected accounts and posts X marks as sensitive or age-restricted are not visible without a login. Live broadcasts and Spaces are streams, not MP4 files, and are not supported.

Is it legal to download videos from X?

Saving a video for personal viewing is generally fine. The creator keeps the copyright, so reuploading, editing it into your own content or using it commercially needs their permission. Credit and link the original post when you share.
