X Articles character limit
An X Article can be up to roughly 100,000 characters, about 15,000 words. That is X's longest writing format, far beyond a 280-character tweet or a 25,000-character long-form post.
The three limits get confused constantly because X uses three different formats. Here is each one side by side, and what you need to publish it.

Why the Article limit is so much larger
Articles are X's answer to long-form publishing, closer to a blog post or a newsletter than a tweet. The roughly 100,000-character ceiling exists so full essays, guides, case studies, and reports fit in a single post with proper headings, a cover image, lists, and embedded posts.
You almost never hit the ceiling. The limit matters mainly because it tells you the format is built for depth, so structure the piece like an article: a strong headline, short intro, clear sections, and a takeaway at the end.
One catch: X's Article editor has no scheduler. If you want to write ahead and publish at a set time, you need a tool that holds your X connection, which is where OpenTweet comes in.

Links and images are handled separately from the text character count. The figures here refer to the body text. Formatting like headings and lists does not eat into a meaningful share of the limit.
Do I need Premium to write a long Article?
