The X Subscription Explained (October 2026): Every Tier, What It Means for X Premium, and the Cheapest Way to Schedule
Short answer: On October 12, 2026, X replaced X Premium, SuperGrok and Cursor's plans (for new buyers) with The X Subscription, which has five tiers: Free ($0), Plus ($8/mo), Premium ($30/mo), Super ($100/mo) and Ultra ($200/mo). For posting on X, only two tiers matter. Plus ($8) gets you the checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads. Premium ($30) gets you the full old Premium+ benefits, including X Pro, for $10 less than Premium+ cost on its own. Super and Ultra add nothing to X itself. They only buy more Grok and Cursor usage.
If you're shopping for a plan only to schedule posts, you don't need any X tier. A scheduler posts to free accounts, too.
Everything below comes from X and xAI's launch posts and the launch coverage from October 12 to 14, 2026. X hasn't published a feature-by-feature list for each tier yet, and we say so wherever that matters.
The five tiers at a glance
| Tier | Monthly | Yearly | X benefits | Grok and Cursor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Standard X | Limited daily Grok, starter Cursor allowance |
| Plus | $8 | $80 | Checkmark, creator tools, fewer ads, advanced analytics | Base weekly pool, Grok API, Cursor with Grok models only |
| Premium | $30 | $300 | Full X Premium+ benefits (ad-free on most surfaces, X Pro) | 4x Plus, Grok Bot, video generation, Cursor cloud agents |
| Super | $100 | $1,000 | Same as Premium | 15x Plus, priority at peak times |
| Ultra | $200 | $2,000 | Same as Premium | 50x Plus, earliest access to new models |
Prices are US list prices before tax. Premium, Super and Ultra are also sold per seat to teams at the same price. Plus isn't sold to teams.
What changed for existing X Premium subscribers
Nothing changes unless you choose to switch. X and xAI say existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium plans "continue at their current price and features." What changed is what new customers can buy:
| Old plan | Old price | Closest new tier | What happens to the price |
|---|---|---|---|
| X Premium Basic | $3/mo | Plus | Goes up to $8. There's no $3 tier anymore |
| X Premium | $8/mo | Plus | Same price |
| X Premium+ | $40/mo | Premium | Goes down to $30 |
| SuperGrok | $30/mo | Premium | Same price, adds X Premium+ and Cursor |
Before you switch, know that switching is permanent. Your old plan is cancelled with a prorated refund, and the new one starts that day at full price. Support can't undo it, and cancelling later doesn't bring the old plan back. Only personal X accounts can be linked, not organization-managed ones. If you bought Cursor through the App Store, cancel it there yourself, or you can be billed twice. As of October 14, existing subscribers have to switch on the web.
Who should switch: Premium+ subscribers who also pay for SuperGrok or Cursor. You get all three for $30.
Who shouldn't: Basic subscribers ($3, no new equivalent), and anyone happy with their current price who doesn't use Grok or Cursor.
Which tier do you need if you only care about X?
Ignore the Grok and Cursor columns and the choice gets much simpler.
Free: you just post
Free covers posting, replying and following. Free accounts are capped at 280 characters, can't get the checkmark and can't join creator payouts. They can still be scheduled from a third-party tool, which is the part many people don't realize.
Plus ($8): the checkmark, long posts and payouts
Plus is the successor to the $8 X Premium plan: checkmark, creator tools, fewer ads and advanced analytics. It's the cheapest tier that gets you verified, which matters for two reasons:
- Reach. X's ranking still favors verified accounts, and replies from verified accounts rank higher in conversations.
- Payouts. X's Original Content Rewards, which replaced revenue sharing on September 8, 2026, needs a verified account with 500 verified followers and 500,000 verified impressions in 90 days.
X hasn't published every Plus feature yet. Check the compose box for long-post support before you plan a long-form strategy around it.
Premium ($30): X Pro and no ads
Premium carries the full X Premium+ benefits. That includes X Pro, the old TweetDeck, which X moved behind the $40 Premium+ plan on March 26, 2026. For a new buyer, X Pro now costs $30 a month, or $25 a month billed yearly.
Buy Premium if you live in X Pro's columns all day: monitoring lists, searches and mentions across several accounts. Don't buy it only to schedule posts. X Pro's scheduler is basic. It has no queue, no evergreen recycling, no auto-plug and no API.
Super and Ultra: not for X
Super and Ultra have the same X benefits as Premium. The extra $70 to $170 a month only buys Grok and Cursor usage, so they're for heavy coding-agent users, not posters.
The cheapest setup for scheduling on X
Scheduling is the main reason people paid for TweetDeck, and the new bundle doesn't make it cheaper than a dedicated tool. Here are the setups people actually run:
| Setup | Monthly cost | Checkmark | Scheduling | Queue, auto-plug, evergreen | AI agents and API |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| X Premium tier (X Pro) | $30 | Yes | Basic | No | No |
| OpenTweet Pro on a free X account | $19.99 | No | Full | Yes | Yes |
| X Plus + OpenTweet Pro | $27.99 | Yes | Full | Yes | Yes |
| X Plus + Typefully Pro | $18 | Yes | Full | Auto-plug, no evergreen | API |
| X Plus + Buffer | $13 | Yes | Basic | No | Limited |
For most creators and founders, X Plus plus a scheduler beats the $30 Premium tier. You get the checkmark and payout eligibility from X, plus a real queue, threads, auto-retweet, auto-plug and evergreen recycling from the scheduler, and it still costs less than Premium.
OpenTweet Pro is $19.99 a month for 1 X account, 20 posts a day and 1 link post a day. It also includes 1 Bluesky and 1 LinkedIn account. Advanced ($29) covers 3 X accounts with 10 link posts a day, and Agency ($49) covers 10 accounts with 20. OpenTweet reads your account's X tier, so if you have Plus or above, long posts publish in full rather than being cut at 280. See how to schedule tweets for the setup.
What The X Subscription doesn't include: the X API
Plus and above include Grok API access. That's xAI's model API, not the X API. If you or your AI agent post to X through the X API, you still pay X's pay-per-use rates on top of any subscription: $0.015 per post and $0.20 per post with a link, with no free tier. We broke that down in X API cost in 2026.
This is why AI agents like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and OpenClaw usually post through a scheduler's API or MCP server rather than through their own X developer app. OpenTweet's API and MCP server are on every plan, and the X API bill is ours, not yours.
How we'd decide in one minute
- You only want to post and schedule: stay on Free and use a scheduler.
- You want the checkmark or payouts: Plus at $8, plus a scheduler if you post daily.
- You monitor X all day in columns, or already pay for SuperGrok or Cursor: Premium at $30.
- You're on Basic at $3 or Premium+ at $40 and don't use Grok or Cursor: don't switch yet. It's permanent, and nothing forces it today.
- You're Super or Ultra shopping for X features: stop. They add nothing to X over Premium.
The short version
The X Subscription is mainly an AI bundle. For X itself, there are really two choices: Plus at $8 for the checkmark and creator tools, and Premium at $30 for X Pro and an ad-free feed. X Pro is now $10 cheaper than it was as Premium+. Still, if scheduling is the reason you're looking, a free or Plus account with a dedicated scheduler costs less and does more.
