Bluesky Engagement Rate Calculator

This free Bluesky engagement rate calculator reads any public account's last 50 posts and shows the mean and median rate, the top posts and how often the account posts. No login.

How Bluesky engagement rate is calculated

Bluesky engagement rate is a post's likes, reposts, replies and quotes divided by the account's followers, times 100. Enter a handle and this calculator does that for the last 50 original posts, then shows the mean, the median and the top 5. Bluesky's public data has no view counts, so followers is the denominator.

Your browser asks Bluesky's public API for the profile and recent posts. Nothing is sent to OpenTweet.

The Bluesky engagement rate formula

engagement rate = (likes + reposts + replies + quotes) / followers x 100

What counts

The four visible actions on a Bluesky post: likes, reposts, replies and quotes. The public API also returns a bookmark count, which this calculator leaves out.

What is left out

Reposts of other people's posts and your own replies. They are not original posts, and counting them would mix your content with conversations.

Why followers

Bluesky's public post data has no view count, so a rate by impressions, as on X or LinkedIn, is not possible from public data.

Mean versus median

The mean moves with every outlier. The median is the middle post, so it is the number to watch week to week.

Measuring X instead? The X engagement rate calculator adds a rate by impressions. For LinkedIn, use the LinkedIn engagement rate calculator.

Post consistently to Bluesky, LinkedIn and X

An engagement rate only tells you something when you post often enough to measure it. OpenTweet schedules one draft to Bluesky, X and LinkedIn from one queue. Bluesky connects over atproto OAuth, with no App Password.

Bluesky Engagement Rate FAQ

How do you calculate Bluesky engagement rate?

For one post, add its likes, reposts, replies and quotes, divide by the account follower count and multiply by 100. For an account, do that for each post and take the mean or the median. This calculator uses the last 50 original posts, so reposts of other people and your replies are left out.

Why does the calculator show a median as well as a mean?

One post that takes off can lift the mean far above what a normal post earns. The median is the rate of the middle post, so it shows what a typical post does. When the two are far apart, a few big posts are carrying the average.

Why divide by followers and not by views?

The post data Bluesky's public API returns includes like, repost, reply and quote counts, but no view or impression count. Followers is the only audience number available for every public account, so it is the denominator here.

Do I need to log in, and is my data stored?

No login. Your browser asks Bluesky's public API (public.api.bsky.app) for the profile and recent posts and does the maths on the page. OpenTweet does not receive or store the handle or the results.

Why does the tool refuse some accounts?

Bluesky lets people ask apps not to show their account to logged-out visitors. When a profile carries that setting, this tool stops and does not read the posts, even though the public API would return them.

What is a good engagement rate on Bluesky?

There is no published Bluesky benchmark we can cite, so this page does not grade your number. Rates usually fall as follower counts grow, so comparing accounts of different sizes says little. Track your own median over time and compare it with itself.

Does OpenTweet show Bluesky analytics?

No. OpenTweet schedules and publishes posts to Bluesky, X and LinkedIn, but it does not read Bluesky analytics back. Use this calculator to measure, and OpenTweet to keep posting on schedule. Plans start at $11.99/mo with a 7-day free trial.
