News RSS feeds that still work in 2026 (BBC, Reuters, AP, Google News)

The short answer

These 64 news RSS feeds all returned stories from the last few hours when we tested them on October 22, 2026. Reuters and AP have no working public feed, so use a Google News feed limited with site:reuters.com or site:apnews.com.

Below: 64 feed URLs in 9 groups, each with what it covers, whether it carries images, and how busy it was. Then how to build a Google News feed for any keyword, how to check a feed yourself, what you may post from someone else's feed, and how to send any of these feeds to X.

Post any feed on this page to X. Card required, cancel any time.

How we tested. On October 22, 2026 we fetched every URL with curl, sending the same user agent as OpenTweet's RSS connector. A feed is listed only if it returned HTTP 200, parsed as RSS, Atom or RDF, and its newest item was less than 10 hours old (most were under 2). Item counts and "last 24 hours" figures are from that fetch.

Images means the feed carries an image a posting tool can use (media:content, media:thumbnail, an image enclosure, or an image in the article body). Feeds that failed are listed at the end of the directory.

World and breaking news RSS feeds

The big general news feeds. BBC, NYT, Sky and the Guardian list stories in editorial order, so the top item is not always the newest. Al Jazeera, CBS, Fox, France 24 and DW list newest first.

Reuters, AP and CNN RSS feeds (through Google News)

None of these three has a working public feed, so each URL below is a Google News search limited to the outlet with site: and to the last hour with when:1h. Items link to the story through a news.google.com redirect, titles end with the outlet name, and there are no images.

Reuters stopped its public RSS feeds years ago. On October 22, 2026, feeds.reuters.com did not connect and reutersagency.com/feed/ returned 404. AP's apnews.com feeds now return HTTP 403 behind a bot check, which is why people in r/Journalism were asking in October 2026, "Now that the AP has shut down RSS feeds, anyone have a good workaround?" CNN's rss.cnn.com feeds still answer but stopped updating: the newest item in the latest-stories feed is from August 22, 2024.

Google News indexes all three within minutes, so a Google News search limited to the site is the workaround that works. Use when:1h for breaking news: Google orders search results by relevance, not time, so a when:1d feed is full of stories from many hours ago. OpenTweet's connector takes the newest items first and skips anything older than 48 hours on fast checks, but a tight window keeps the feed itself fresh.

Google News RSS feeds by topic

Google News publishes a feed for its front page and for each topic. They are ordered by Google’s ranking, not by time, carry no images, and link through news.google.com. Change hl, gl and ceid for another country edition (the UK edition is hl=en-GB&gl=GB&ceid=GB:en, France is hl=fr&gl=FR&ceid=FR:fr; both tested).

Five things to know before you use one

  • Results are ordered by relevance, not time. Add when:1h when you check often so everything in the feed is fresh.
  • A feed holds at most 100 items. A busy topic such as the Premier League hit 100 within one hour, so narrow it with site: or intitle:.
  • Links go through news.google.com and forward to the publisher. Titles end with the publisher's name, such as "- Reuters".
  • No images in the feed. If you include the link, X shows the article's link card.
  • Old stories can slip in. A site:bbc.com search limited to one hour also returned a 2018 article, so read the first run before you turn on auto-posting.

How to check if a news RSS feed works

Paste the URL into the free RSS feed preview to see the latest items, dates and images. From a terminal, check three things: the status code is 200, the content type is XML, and the newest date is recent.

curl -sL -A "Mozilla/5.0" -o feed.xml \
  -w "%{http_code} %{content_type}\n" \
  "https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml"
# 200 text/xml; charset=utf-8

grep -o "<pubDate>[^<]*" feed.xml | head -3 # newest dates
grep -c "<media:thumbnail" feed.xml # items with an image
  • HTTP 200 with an empty body or HTML usually means a bot check. ESPN does this to browsers but not to feed readers, so test with the tool that will read the feed.
  • HTTP 200 but old dates means a frozen feed. CNN's and NHK's old addresses answer normally and have not updated in months.
  • Images: look for media:content, media:thumbnail or an enclosure with an image type in each item.

What you may post from someone else's feed

Safe pattern: the headline, a summary in your own words, the link, and the outlet's name. That sends readers to the source and does not copy the story.

Leave out: the full article text, long quotes, and the outlet's photos. News photos are often licensed from agencies, so keep the image option off for feeds you do not own. The Images column above matters for your own site's feed or one you have permission to use.

X's rules: automated posting from RSS is allowed when you are authorized to share the content, accounts must show X's "Automated" label, and the same headline must not go out from several of your accounts. See X automation rules.

More detail in Can you post news headlines on X? and how to run a news aggregator account. This is not legal advice.

Post any of these feeds to X

The OpenTweet RSS connector reads a feed, writes one post per new story, and publishes it to your X account. You connect X with a normal login, so there is no X developer account, and OpenTweet pays X's API fees inside the plan.

  1. Paste a feed URL from this page (or a site address; the connector finds the feed). RSS, Atom, RDF and JSON Feed all work.
  2. Choose how often to check: every 5 minutes, every 15 minutes, hourly, daily, weekly or manual, on every plan. An unchanged feed is skipped with a quick “has it changed?” request.
  3. Choose how it writes: an AI rewrite with your prompt and voice, which can also skip stories that do not fit, or a template such as New: {title}\n{url} using {title}, {url} and {description}.
  4. Choose 1, 5 or 10 posts per run, and whether new posts wait for your review or are scheduled automatically, starting 5 minutes out and spaced by a gap of 30 minutes to 12 hours (90 minutes by default).
  5. Turn the link on or off, and the image on only for feeds you own. Each story posts once: items are matched by guid, id, link or content.
Connectors -> New connector -> RSS

  Feed URL: https://news.google.com/rss/search?q=site:apnews.com+when:1h&hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en
  Frequency: Every 15 minutes
Writing: AI rewrite. Prompt: "One sentence on what happened,
in plain words. Name the source. No hashtags,
                  no 'BREAKING'."
  Posts per run: 5
New posts: held for review first, then auto-schedule
                  with a 90-minute gap
Article link: on (includeLink, added on its own line)
  Image: off (includeImage; third-party feed)
  X account: @yournewsdesk

There are no keyword filters, so pick a narrow feed (a section feed, or a Google News search) and let the prompt do the rest. The first run picks from stories already in the feed, which is another reason to start with review. With auto cross-posting turned on in Settings, connector posts also go to your Bluesky and LinkedIn accounts.

Link posts per plan

Through X's API a post with a URL costs $0.200 and a plain post $0.015 (X API pricing, checked October 22, 2026). Twenty link posts a day is about 600 a month, or $120 in API fees. Each OpenTweet plan includes a daily number of link posts at a flat price.

OpenTweet plans for news feeds
PlanPriceConnectorsConnector posts a dayLink posts a dayAll posts a day
Pro$19.99/mo510120
Advanced$29/moUnlimited5010100
Agency$49/moUnlimited15020300

Past the daily link allowance you can buy link credits; without them the URL is left out and the post goes out as text. Images do not count as links. See pricing, and why X charges more for links.

X's own daily cap

Since about May 16, 2026, X limits accounts without Premium to 50 original posts a day, as reported by Gigazine citing X's help center. A busy news account needs Premium on X as well as enough posts on its OpenTweet plan.

Faster than a feed check: post from the API

The connector checks every 5 minutes at best and posts the first new item 5 minutes later. For breaking news within seconds, have your own watcher call the REST API with publish_now: true. One request can also schedule up to 50 posts, attach images with media_urls, and pick the account with x_account_id. A post that repeats a recent one returns 409 instead of going out twice.

# Breaking story: post it now, not on the next feed check
curl -X POST https://opentweet.io/api/v1/posts \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer ot_your_key" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
"text": "Your one-line summary of the story, in your words. Source: Reuters",
    "publish_now": true
  }'

Fields are in the API reference. The same posting works from the MCP server, the CLI, the n8n node and the Telegram bot. ProPakistani runs breaking news across several handles this way, and The Circuitry posts 15 to 25 tech stories a day across two accounts.

Frequently asked questions

Does Reuters have an RSS feed?

Not a working public one. On October 22, 2026, feeds.reuters.com did not connect and reutersagency.com/feed/ returned 404. The workaround that works is a Google News search feed: https://news.google.com/rss/search?q=site:reuters.com+when:1h&hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en returns Reuters stories from the last hour (23 when we checked). Narrow it with a path, such as site:reuters.com/business.

Does AP News still have RSS feeds?

No. apnews.com/index.rss and apnews.com/hub/ap-top-news.rss both returned HTTP 403 with a bot check on October 22, 2026. Use a Google News feed instead: https://news.google.com/rss/search?q=site:apnews.com+when:1h&hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en returned 20 AP stories from the last hour. Each title ends in "- AP News" and links through news.google.com.

How do I get a Google News RSS feed for a keyword?

Put your search in the q parameter of https://news.google.com/rss/search, then add the edition: https://news.google.com/rss/search?q=YOUR+KEYWORDS&hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en. Use quotes for an exact phrase, OR between alternatives, a minus sign to exclude a word, site: to limit to one outlet, intitle: to match the headline, and when:1h or when:1d to limit by age. Replace spaces with + and quotes with %22.

What is the BBC breaking news RSS feed?

The BBC does not publish a separate breaking news feed. The closest is the top stories feed, https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml, which had 32 items, 30 of them from the last 24 hours, when we checked. For world news use https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/world/rss.xml, and for the UK https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/uk/rss.xml.

How often do news RSS feeds update?

Big outlets update within minutes of publishing. On October 22, 2026, the newest item in BBC, CBS, CNBC, France 24 and Le Monde feeds was under an hour old. Volume differs a lot: Sky News home had 8 stories in 24 hours, the BBC top stories feed 30, El País 112. Most feeds keep only the latest 10 to 70 items, so a reader has to check at least as often as items roll off.

Does CNN still have RSS feeds?

The old rss.cnn.com addresses still answer, but they are frozen: the newest item in cnn_latest.rss was from August 22, 2024, and the top stories feed stopped in 2023. For current CNN stories use https://news.google.com/rss/search?q=site:cnn.com+when:1h&hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en.

Is there an RSS feed that only posts really big breaking news?

No outlet publishes a "major stories only" feed. The closest are top stories feeds, such as BBC News top stories (about 30 items a day) or Google News top stories. To post only the biggest stories to X, feed one of these into the OpenTweet RSS connector with a prompt telling the AI to skip anything that is not major breaking news. It skips items that do not fit.

Can I post these news feeds to X automatically?

Yes, if you write your own summary and link to the source instead of copying the article. Add the feed URL to the OpenTweet RSS connector, choose a check every 5 or 15 minutes, and each new story becomes a post. Pro ($19.99/month) includes 1 link post a day, Advanced ($29) 10, Agency ($49) 20. No X developer account is needed.

Turn a feed on this page into an X account

Connect X, paste a feed URL, and the next story goes out as a post in your words.
