How does X Money work?
X Money is X's built-in account for US adults: free instant payments to anyone on X, 4% or 6% APY on your balance, and a Visa debit card. Since September 23, 2026 you no longer need a paid X plan to use it, and since September 2, 2026 it is the only way US creators get paid by X.
Two changes are coming: from December 1, 2026 the 6% rate only covers the first $150,000, and the $1 tip on a long-press of Like that Elon Musk announced on October 25 has not shipped yet. Facts below come from money.x.com, X's interest FAQ and licenses page, and TechCrunch's report on creator payouts, checked November 2, 2026.

How to get X Money
- Use the X app with a US account in good standing, and be 18 or older.
- Look for Money in the app menu. Access is still rolling out, so some users do not see it yet; there is no official waitlist.
- Verify your identity when asked. X Money is a regulated account, so expect the usual name, address and ID checks.
- Add money by direct deposit, a check or a debit card. Funding with a credit card can be treated as a cash advance by your card issuer.
- Order the X Card if you want to spend the balance or earn cashback.
Not in the US?
X Money is US-only on November 2, 2026. If you are a creator outside the US, X still pays you through Stripe, so nothing changes for you yet. What X Money means for creators
For US creators, X Money is now where Original Content Rewards and subscription income land. The upside: payouts are instant with no $30 minimum, and $1,000 of payouts in a 34-day window is enough for 6% APY without a paid plan.
The payout itself still depends on the same thing as before: verified impressions on original posts. Original Content Rewards needs 500 verified followers and 500,000 verified impressions in 90 days, and replies do not count. That rewards accounts that post good original posts every day, which is a consistency problem more than a money one.
Do not chase the $1 tip yet
The long-press tip on Like is an announcement, not a feature. Nobody knows yet whether it will be US-only, whether it needs a paid plan, or whether it counts as a qualifying deposit. We will update this page when X ships it.If you want to keep posting daily without living in the app, OpenTweet schedules a week of posts and threads to X in one sitting, writes drafts in your own voice, and keeps an evergreen queue running. Frequently asked questions
Is X Money available to everyone?
Only in the US. X's site says it is for "select users in the United States who are 18 or older" and that access is expanding. It rolled out to US Premium and Premium+ subscribers from July 27, 2026, and the paid-plan requirement was dropped on September 23, 2026. There is no confirmed date for other countries.
Do I need X Premium to use X Money?
No, not since September 23, 2026. A paid plan changes your rate and perks: Premium, Super or Ultra on The X Subscription (or legacy Premium+) get 6% APY and full cashback with no deposit condition. Everyone else starts at 4% APY.
What is the X Money interest rate?
Per X's interest FAQ (rates effective October 12, 2026): 4.00% APY on the free tier, Plus, legacy Basic or legacy Premium, rising to 6.00% after at least $1,000 of qualifying deposits in a trailing 34-day window. Premium, Super, Ultra and legacy Premium+ get 6.00%. From December 1, 2026, 6% applies only to the first $150,000; anything above earns 4%.
What counts as a qualifying deposit?
ACH direct deposits (payroll-style PPD deposits) and X creator payouts. So a US creator who earns $1,000 or more in a 34-day window from Original Content Rewards or subscriptions qualifies for 6% without a paid plan.
Does X Money pay interest in New York?
No. Since October 1, 2026, after an order from New York's financial regulator, New York users earn no interest. X offers a $300 bonus after $3,000 of qualifying deposits instead, and says the bonus is not APY or interest.
What are the X Money fees?
X says sending money to anyone on X is free and has no limits. The X Card has no foreign transaction fees. ATM operator fees are reimbursed without limit on paid plans, and up to $4 per withdrawal, twice a month, for everyone else. X does not publish a full fee schedule, so check the app before using instant withdrawals.
Is X Money a bank? Is it FDIC insured?
X Payments LLC is a licensed money transmitter, not a bank. Accounts are held at Cross River Bank (Member FDIC), and funds are swept across a network of banks for up to $10 million of aggregate pass-through FDIC coverage. X lists licenses in 47 states plus DC; Massachusetts, Montana and Wisconsin were not on the list on November 2, 2026.
Are X creator payouts paid into X Money?
For US creators, yes, and only there. Since September 2, 2026, US payouts from Original Content Rewards and creator subscriptions go to X Money instead of Stripe. They arrive instantly with no $30 minimum, and US individuals get a 1099-NEC. Creators outside the US are still paid through Stripe.
Can you tip someone $1 by long-pressing Like?
Not yet. On October 25, 2026, Elon Musk posted "We're adding long press on like to send someone $1 via X Money." As of November 2 there is no launch date, no eligibility rules and no help page for it. Some outlets reported it as launched; we found no confirmation.
What happens to my X Money if my X account is suspended?
X Money needs an X account in good standing. Reports on the terms say a suspension for child safety or violent and hateful entities violations ends X Money access, and the balance is sent to you by check. Treat your posting habits as part of keeping the account.
